Missing out on the deadline for last year’s V48Hour Film Festival by “less than a minute,” film-maker Micah Puklowski along with team mates Ariana Brunet and Tassanee Puklowski crossed the finish line this year with time to spare, scooping up a handful of nominations in the process.
With over 80 films entered in the Hamilton regional heats, Micah’s film Monochromacy, has been voted for best film, best art direction, best director and best actress for local rising star Ariana’s performance. With the competition celebating their 10th anniversary in 2012, Monochromacy is one of the 12 Hamilton finalist’s movies that will be screening at Hoyts Te Awa on June 13th.
“You always hope to win, but I’m so happy this year with our completed film that if we do win anything it will be the icing on the cake. I hope Ariana gets best actress and that our film is good enough to compete on a national level,” said Micah
The film is about two sisters facing a life changing event, when one of them has an operation to correct a birth defect known as monochromacy. Organiser, Paul Barlow described the film as “ a truly poignant film with a wonderful message of hope, bought to the screen with some very good performances and some great directional skills.”
A Master of Arts graduate and previous national finalist, Monochromacy will mark Micah’s 5th year entering the 48Hour competition and described working with teammates Ariana and cousin, Tassannee as a “highlight” and “fun experience for all”
“Hamilton had some tough competition heading into the finals, I just want to wish all the teams good luck and invite everybody to come support the finalists at Hoyts on June 13th,” said Micah.
Other contestants from Raglan also included Maryann Tuao’s Groundswell Media team.
