If you’re searching for mind blowing Raglan accommodation at a budget price then you’re in luck. This Eco Surf retreat is on the West Coast of New Zealand in the mighty Waikato region. Around 50 minutes drive from Hamilton city & just 8kms from Raglan township (free pick ups & drop offs for guests) you will find us located in Whale Bay, on a 110 acre native reserve. Karioi Lodge caters to travellers, backpackers, families & large groups seeking off-beat NZ accommodation. We also provide a magical Raglan venue for weddings, corporates & other special occasions & offer self-contained coastal accommodation in Whale Bay with Sleeping Lady Lodgings.

Accommodation for backpacker travelers, this lodge is also available for group bookings. The lodge sleeps 60, and is set in a 110-acre coastal reserve in Whale Bay. Enjoy the large decks with fantastic native bush and sea views. Try a surf lesson, walk the mountain trails, laze in a hammock or soak in the Scandinavian Sauna at night.

About this property

The Karioi Lodge is not your usual backpackers. We also offer a wide range of accommodation and activities through the 110 acre Outdoor Centre, including surfing lessons with the Raglan Surfing School, self-contained seaside accommodation with Sleeping Lady Lodgings and the renowned women’s only surf retreat ” Surf Dames”. Our combined facilities provide a unique venue for the independent traveller, families, special occasions, schools/groups and corporates.

Room Rates

There are 15 heated dorm rooms with 4 beds per room. Fresh clean linen, blankets and cooking facilities are included – $30 per person. 
There are 5 heated double rooms, complete with fresh clean linen and blankets – $75 per double occ. Ask about our group discount rates.
As a guest of Karioi Lodge you also receive a special lodge discount on surfboard and wetsuit hire with the Raglan Surfing School.
