The Young Ones: Ziggy Knuiman

The Young Ones is a series of Q & A’s with the youth in Raglan. This week the Chronicle caught up with Ziggy Knuiman who is currently enrolled in the Raglan Area School Surfing Academy.

What made you want to join the Surf Academy at Raglan Area School?

Because I get to surf every day and enjoy the Raglan lifestyle.

What do you like about it?

It is a lot of fun, I have awesome teachers and friends, really chilled out and surfing all the time.

Apart from surfing what do you like to do?

Skating, hanging with my friends and going on adventures.

Who do you look up to?

John John Florence and Kelly Slater are pretty cool and seem like they have life sorted.

What’s the benefit of living in Raglan?

Having a big group of cool mates who all get along, everybody knows each other. The older locals are really nice, the surf obviously and its really chilled out.

How could Raglan be improved?

I think Raglan is sweet as how it is at the moment, it’s a good size and not ruined by humans yet so yeah its good.

Best thing about social media?

I don’t really like social media, it wastes too much time, but keeping in contact with your mates is probably the best part.

Worst thing about social media?

The amount of time that you spend on it for sure, people getting bullied is bad too.

What is the biggest issue facing the world right now?

I’m not sure  but I’d say pollution is up there and laziness.

The country you would most like to visit?

Tahiti or Hawaii.

If you were stuck in an elevator for 24 hours with one person – who would you like that person to be?

Probably a really quiet person so I could just sleep.

Best book you’ve ever read?

Life of Pi is pretty good.

You have the exact same meal for the next 12 months. What’s your pick?

Raglan Sushi.

In 10 years I see myself……

Hopefully finished uni with a good job living by a beach with a hot girlfriend.
